I recently was thinking about which CoR that I prefer, in that I'd prefer taking into account the risk of accidental discharge (shooting my foot) vs having the added delay putting your gun into a readiness to fire, should a bad guy come at you.
The conditions are:
Condition 4: Chamber empty / Empty Mag / hammer down
Condition 3: Chamber empty / Full Mag in Place / hammer down
Condition 2: Round Chambered / Full Mag in Place / hammer down
Condition 1: Round Chambered / Full Mag in Place / Hammer cocked / Safety ON
Condition 0: Round Chambered / Full Mag in Place / Hammer Cocked / Safety OFF
Lately, I carry in Condition 3. Although seconds can count, I see more risk in accidentally shooting myself (Sig 938) through forgetfulness, than an actual altercation. That might change. I figure if I feel the need to draw, it would take me two additional seconds to chamber and safety off.
Thoughts? I bet most of you probably carry in Condition 1, or "cocked and locked".
