Conditions of Readiness - refresher - ssphoto - 09-03-2015 I recently was thinking about which CoR that I prefer, in that I'd prefer taking into account the risk of accidental discharge (shooting my foot) vs having the added delay putting your gun into a readiness to fire, should a bad guy come at you. The conditions are: Condition 4: Chamber empty / Empty Mag / hammer down Condition 3: Chamber empty / Full Mag in Place / hammer down Condition 2: Round Chambered / Full Mag in Place / hammer down Condition 1: Round Chambered / Full Mag in Place / Hammer cocked / Safety ON Condition 0: Round Chambered / Full Mag in Place / Hammer Cocked / Safety OFF Lately, I carry in Condition 3. Although seconds can count, I see more risk in accidentally shooting myself (Sig 938) through forgetfulness, than an actual altercation. That might change. I figure if I feel the need to draw, it would take me two additional seconds to chamber and safety off. Thoughts? I bet most of you probably carry in Condition 1, or "cocked and locked". RE: Conditions of Readiness - refresher - jfergus7 - 09-03-2015 When I do carry I am usually in Condition 2 RE: Conditions of Readiness - refresher - BelieveIn308 - 09-03-2015 I usually carry in Condition 1. But I train to with pistols to release the safety when I draw. I know I am old school, and prefer a manual safety. I think that many accidents (some say negligence) occur on firearms without a safety. If I was really concerned about an accidental discharge, and didn't feel confident that hand off the trigger, safety on would totally safe, I might drop to Condition 3, but I might not carry at all in that case. You could almost say that with Glock, you have only 0, 3 and 4... RE: Conditions of Readiness - refresher - Fireman - 09-03-2015 I have a striker fired and I carry in chamber, mag full, and safety off. RE: Conditions of Readiness - refresher - mikereddot - 09-20-2015 First time I say this. I'm a big fat ZERO. BUT.....been carrying my new R1 this weekend, so that make me #1 now. |
