I recently finished watching all the Walking Dead episodes. I had never watched them before.

There were a lot of various weapons come and go, but several were consistent with certain characters and were "their gun". Andrea had her Smith & Wesson 3913 "Ladysmith", Carl had a Beretta 92FS, Daryl had his bow, and of course Rick's Colt Python.

On a side note, in one scene Carl and Rick are shooting zombies together and Rick fired three shots and then Carl fired one. I don't know if they used the actual sound of the guns, but when Rick fired his 357 Magnum it went *BOOM*, *BOOM*, *BOOM*, then Carl fired his 9 MM and it went *pop*, it was pretty funny.

Anyway, here is my question. You are thrown into the Walking Dead and you get to take one pistol and one long gun (rifle or shot) that you currently own. These will be "your guns".

Which do you take?

Hard choice but I guess it would be by G17 or my G23 and an AR with 18" barrel.

hmmm....Zombies means I want more rounds... So my sidearm is going to be FNS-9 (17 rds) and my rifle choice will be a 5.56/.223 LE6920 with 40 rd MagPul mags...

If I were to have to fight other people, them I'm going HK91 (.308 Nato) and Springfield arms .45APC 5.25" barrel.

Although it is tempting to just stick with .308...

Glock 19, standard mags and a 33 round mag would definitely help!

Shotgun ammo is so heavy... EFFECTIVE, yes, but can you carry 300 rds with ya all the time? Plus do you want all those Zombies that close to you?

Maybe a Mosin Nagant with a bayonet for stabbing them...

M&P357c with the .40 and 9mm barrels + magazines. Most of the ammo I have is 9mm but having the three barrels means I hopefully have better luck finding ammo when scrounging for supplies.

Walking Dead show runners are sticklers for details and making everything seem as authentic as possible, you know, for a show about zombies. There are scenes in the Governor's camp where they show a reloading room and I read somewhere that they have Rick pocket his brass when he empties the gun and Daryl retrieves his crossbow bolts.

My FNX-45. 15 Rnd mags, and my Savage scout .308. I'm cheating, because I'm having my wife bring her .357 and the 870 Tac Smile

An AR15 platform is the best Zombie solution. Lots of rounds, good long range firepower, light ammunition (you could carry 20 x 30rd mags).

The FNX-45 is an excellent choice!

Yeah, but with my scout, i can peg them from much farther away. I'll let you worry about the closer one with your AR. My 870 will deal with the up close ones Smile

I like .308x51, (hello my moniker...) but for Zombies, they don't seek cover, they move slow, they stand up in the open... No need for long range firepower, plus they don't shoot back. More rounds, aimed fire are best... The lighter the ammo the better...

Carrying 20 magazines in not a real problem for the AR15 (600 rds). Carrying 600 shotgun shells or 30 x 20 round .308 mags is a lot of weight. Even the really nice 25 round Magpul window SR/LR308 mags are heavy...

I guess it's my turn to answer my own question.

I don't own a lot yet, so my choices are few, but still hard.

If we are talking zombies Believe makes a good point with volume. So my XDM 5.25 would be the choice for that. I already had a full size .45, so I bought that in 9 MM. With the 3 free mags Springfield gave out last fall, I have 6 at 19. With one in the chamber, I can start with loaded mags of 115 rounds. Not bad.

However, it would be very, very hard to leave behind my Springfield 1911 TRP in .45. Although I don't own a lot, I have rented and shot a lot and nothing feels as good shooting or as accurate as the TRP. Add to that this was the gun Chris Kyle chose as his only sidearm in battle (if a SEAL sniper choosing your gun doesn't give you a gun hard on, nothing will Smile ). Take the round count out of consideration then the TRP would be my choice.

I only have two long guns. One is the Mossberg 12 G flex. With that I have the breacher barrel and a long barrel for clays. The breacher front is a serious weapon by itself, so when the shells are gone it is still usefull.

My other is a Mosin. It's a heavy sucker, but given it's history (i.e. was there any place in history more like the end of the world than Stalingrad in WWII? ) it would hold its own. Add that the butt stock is pretty much a sledge hammer, and if any gun could handle smashing skulls this is the one. Also, the 17 inch bayonet is not only designed to stab through anything but also leave a hole hard to patch (you gotta love the Russians for coming up with ways to tear people up). When the ammo is gone you still have two useful weapons.

So I guess I do the Mosin and XDM 5.25 for zombies (still crying while the 1911 TRP stays behind), and I take the Mossberg and the 1911 TRP for general bugout.

Just something about the Mosin bayonet says "Die Zombie, DIE!"... Ya have to admit the death scene with the Mosin bayoneting the Zombie would make for good video!

Seems like some good choices to me. The only thing I have to say about having a shotgun, for zombies I'd go with the quietest route to avoid as much as I could. Any gun would make too much noise. So while useful being able to reach out and hit something at a distance, I would be more worried about the close range game anyway. The ammo is heavy and bulky... So that is a drawback.. But in a situation where you could be stuck I feel like it would be a much more effective point and click weapon. I may change my mind after I finish building my ar and get some practice with it, bit that's just a thought for now!

My choices are my HK USP in .40S&W and my Uzi carbine in 9mm. When fired through a 16" barrel the 9x19mm round becomes a whole different animal that I routinely drop white tails with. Zombies wouldn't be an issue with it. Add the availability of the round, as well as very low recoil for follow up shots plus a 30 round low weight mag, and it makes for a good end of days weapon. The HK I just love too much to leave behind.
