I've been giving this a lot of thought. I plan to bug in initially, as I am West of the Fox River. I have 6 months of long shelf life food stacked here. I do need to get like 10-14 days of light packing freeze dried food for bugging out. And probably pre-position some where ever I decide to bug out too. My biggest problem is not belonging to a group with more coherent plans. But I do need some light carry rations.

Ok, RDA, what do you recommend for 8 people for 14 days? Wise food wise? This has to be pretty portable as this is 'forced bug out' food. I have like 6 days rations type food bars that are in back packs. I am thinking like 320 meals, no more.

I'm curious about this too. Is it just to get away from the millions of people in the area. Every prepped checklist I see seems short term. I thought that SHTF was a long term thing.
I'm also not in way a prepper or have any real knowledge on the subject but I'm willing to learn. Is it possible for some of you who are post on what you are preparing for and how you are preparing?

Well I have 3 food prep plans... Every BOB gets 4 days concentrated ration bars (3600 calories per day). If forced to bug out, I would prefer to add 14-20 days of portable food supplies, which means 8 people carrying extra. I am stocking 6 months of food in my current location, as I plan to bug in until forced to leave.
If and when I have a bug out location planned and an alternate, I probably stock those with 1-3 months of food.
Do you see a major flaw in my current planning? Any changes you would recommend?

Most of the little planning I've done includes up to like 3 people... I want to get a bag ready that would last me a couple of days, whether I have people with me or not. I know it's not the best thing to lean on, but I'd be trying to save my emergency rations and eating from places that I could get any food from, in order to save what I have.
Also, I like your current stash for the house as far as having enough there to live on for a while. I would do the same if I could as far as stay until forced out.
Did you take water supply into consideration? from drinking water, to any water needed to prepare food?
He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.”
— Luke 22:36, NIV

I would love to find a big group of people and not have to bug out, but back each other. Just need a big property near by.

I have a pond within 400 yards, and a well on the property that can be run via generator, battery (zero noise) or hand pump. I have 100 gallon tank and 7 x 7 gallon portable containers. 2 Filtration systems, and 8 Lifestraws.
I am planning for 4 people, but as usual I'm provisioning for double that food wise. Joining a group would be great, but they have to be the right group. If we cannot work together, then local alliances can work as well. At least you have a temporary place to head to, if forced to bug out. There are a lot of preps I have to catch up on, or provide alternatives for, given my limited budget.
And my plan is to bug in until FORCED to leave. If you have 8 people and have 30 plus hostiles moving in, yes you can take some of them out, maybe even the majority, and depending on their training and weapons you may even be able to make them leave, but they likely will be back, in greater numbers. Bugging out is almost a last resort, but I want a plan in place and options when it happens. Knowing where you are going and having pre-positioned supplies may save your skin. It is why I believe in .308 over 5.56mm as well. I want to hit harder, and out range them. Have better optics and at least one thermal imaging system for night combat.

That is what I was thinking,Strength in numbers. Honestly something like the Illinois militia I think has it the right way. The train with each other on a monthly basis and during emergencies the help out police and other first responders. Even if the whole house if cards come down you will know a lit of people with usefully skills

Another good idea is a group to go camping with. Kinda puts you in a scenario to work with the other people ect. My friend and I do that going camping up north in the boundary Waters
He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.”

I dunno about militia groups, but you correct about strength in numbers. People need to sleep, and there are more skill sets available in more people. Critical services might be more readily available if needed as well.
I have done enough wilderness camping in the San Luis valley in Colorado in my younger days I feel I would be able to survive just fine. Working with others is about respect for their knowledge in areas you may be very weak. You can always learn.
But a group is more about agreements in planning, work and execution. Getting agreed upon things done. Having agreed upon plans in advance. So many things to plan for as well. Common agreed upon ammo, weapons, communications, security, direction.
There seem to be few organized groups out here, or they are remaining very off grid for security reasons.

One are many groups forget about is a simple common mess hall. If you have 8 or more families are you really going to cook 8 different meals on 8 different kitchens?
Many groups neglect items like this in their preps. Start thinking big for bug out locations. A few large pots.
Food Preps should be thought of in a 3 tier approach.
Tier 1: SOS type rations, a 3 day supply for everyone, kept in BOB's.
Tier 2: Freeze dried food for 30 days, to be considered PORTABLE, and you would add this to each person's BOB
Tier 3: Bulk food items that you will actually eat. #10 cans are good for some items. See link below...

But Bulk packages of Rice, Beans, etc work well too... Fairly inexpensive at Sam's or Costco.
