Fall is here, winter is on the way!!! (I know Sorry )

That means hoodies then coats! What will you guys be carrying for the colder months? Mine will rotate a little, but mostly my FNX9 or the Glock 17. Big GrinBig GrinBig GrinBig Grin

I'm still surprised when I see leaves on the ground! Have to admit I do like fall though

It is my greatest fear SHTF during winter. Do I have enough gear for weeks on end in the field? The importance of a good entrenching tool cannot be forgotten. This winter, spend 3-4 days in the elements. I did this last year. My biggest take away was how much extra gear you need and can you have quality socks? Think of another way to make fire. Think of how to dig in into a pit so it is difficult to see. Learn to heat rocks.

The one thing I didn't get to test was how well rifles function in after being outside for days in sub zero cold. Also, I was unhappy with my gloves and will need to change those out. One good thing about winter though, is you appreciate the need the stay dry. Forget about cotton underwear. Cotton socks KILL.

If you are bugging in place do you have enough firewood? And you do need more food during the winter. To those with families with children, remember they need gear as good or better than you have. Do your kids have 3 pair each of quality wool socks?
Those bright orange coats might be good in the winter but not in SHTF. Do you have enough heavy duty sleep gear for them?

That's why I was wondering if mcmiller kept their range open year long. I was thinking of leaving mine outside for the night in a shed, and taking them apart to put in s cooler to bring to the in the cooler and put it together right before shooting. Mostly to test the lube ect. And probably my ability to assemble them in the cold with gloves on haha

That's why your winter bug out rifle is a Mosin Nagant.

60 years of winter testing from Finland to Stalingrad and all snowbanks in between. Thumbs up

I've heard so much about those rifles. Are they worth picking one up?

Yes, the prices are still great. You have to be careful to get a clean/clear barrel. After that, if you are not a purist looking to keep it untouched, you can get parts, etc. if needed.

I got one for $190, and all I did was refinish it. It shoots great and quite accurate, at least as accurate as my limited skills can make it. They are loud and fun.

However, the prices are starting to climb between quantities starting to slow, the new Russian authorities starting to figure out they can make more money, and future/potential international restrictions.

Red Dot can probably still snag you a crate of 20. Drool

I'd definitely be interested in looking into that. I have near that from eBay sales that I'm sitting on from old rc car equipment.. Haha a worthy trade in my opinion. I'll have to ask them when I stop in there next

I paid $150 from Bud's gun shop and the RDA FFL transfer fee. I'm quite happy with my Mosin Nagant. It shoots well, and I purchased it as a hand out rifle. It turned out really nice. There is a thread on here about my experience with the Mosin.

That's such a good price for a good gun from what I understand... I might have to do that... I'll start checking around and see what I think!

Get it while the cost is low! They are bound to go up with the russian import ban. (although im sure there are stockpiles elsewhere that could be shipped here)

Do you guys have a price range on any at RDA? Like what price I'd be looking at delivered.

No worries, I need to look into it a little still. If I decide to go with it I'll ask again then!

Sorry dude, you freaked me out with the pic with snow. I'll be carrying a much bigger firearm as my coat gets bigger and thicker. Their will be days where I carry my full size XDM-45 or FNX-45.
