Time for Gun Shops to MOVE OUT OF Seattle!
http://dailysignal.com/2015/08/11/seattl...mmunition/

The council unanimously approved the measure, adding a $25 tax on firearms sold in the city and a 5-cent tax on each round of ammunition. The legislation also requires gun owners to report lost or stolen firearms within 24 hours.

Council President Tim Burgess noted that a Seattle hospital treated 253 shooting victims last year, costing taxpayers more than $12 million. Lawmakers plan to use the estimated $500,000 the tax would generate annually to offset the costs linked to gun violence and to fund anti-violence programs.

Of course when they lose their court challenge to the new 'Tax' they must be held accountable for FULL REFUNDS, as well as damages for 'Infringing upon People's Second Amendment Rights'. I would suggest a penalty of $1000 per transaction for knowingly infringing upon peoples rights. I hope the NRA asks for these refunds and punitive damages up front in the lawsuit.

Clearly such taxes are unconstitutional, and they know it. But if not, then certainly a new poll tax, abortion tax, will be good in other areas of the country. In the meantime, gun and ammo users should buy their ammo outside Seattle.

If they sue they'll probably lose based on the precedent that was set with Obozocare. They could also use the tactic that it's no different than the soda tax in NYC or tobacco taxes. While I agree that it should be thrown out, realistically I don't see it happening.

There is plenty of case law on taxes on Constitutional rights. Sales taxes on Newspapers, Poll Taxes, etc have all been found to be unconstitutional. I doubt a liberal supreme court would want to see an abortion tax, for example should they hold taxes are legal on Constitutional rights. The city of Seattle must be held to pay back every dime if a court should rule that 'Rights' cannot be taxed. And Punitive damages are clearly called for when they knowingly try to tax a right.

I'm not arguing with you but with the current state of things I don't see this being overturned.

I am sure the NRA will sue them and win. It is just a question of time before the suit is filed and the law is overturned. They need to have someone actually pay the tax, before they can sue.

I have to agree. With whats going on right now...they may stand a chance but I don't think it looks like a win for our team. Looks like shops in Seattle will want to take their shops out side the City limits or at least outside the reach of this new mandated tax.
