I got a packet in the mail from Everytown For Gun Safety today....apparently the folks that helped Washington state pass their recent gun restriction laws.

Asking for money......not. Oh yeah...a survey, too. That I'll send.

Amongst their key points:
1. pass laws for criminal background checks...for all sales
2. develop policies to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers/stalkers - pipe dream
3. gun trafficking
4. fight the gun lobby and prevent guns in "sensitive" areas like bars, parks, college campus.... hmmm....been here before.
5......and the one that pisses me off the most - re-interpret the 2nd Amendment.

The more I read this, it's more of an anti-NRA document. While I'm not happy with either side of this debate and some of the tactics each uses, in the end, any organization that wants to redefine the 2A is NOT getting my vote.

Answer the survey and have fun with it. Would be nice if there was a comment section. Then you can really lean into the facts to dispel their myths. I WANT ONE!

I would agree with that! There's no way I'd vote to redefine any of it. I wonder how many people look at these things and just agree without understanding what's their looking at....

Several thoughts:

1. "Anti" is one of the reasons they are losing. Grass roots do not grow from what people are against, they grow from what people are for.

2. You cannot legally "redefine" an amendment. You can remove it, add to it, or add a new one, but that takes 2/3 of the states to ratify.

You simply cannot have an activity go on for 250 years and then one day be declared unconstitutional without a single word added or removed. Not only is it illogical it is illegal. If you don't believe me ask Scalia. He will tell you.

You ask then how does it happen. We let it. Congress sits there and does nothing, the past Presidents sat there and did nothing, and the current President violates the constitution himself while Congress still does nothing even when the courts are saying the President is violating it.

We have people like Leno making jokes like when he said we should give Afghanistan our constitution since we are not using it, but the reality is it isn't funny.

People say things like "the founding fathers would have been shooting by now" because it is a good catch phrase, but I honestly believe they would have been.

I disagree. They'd never let it get to this point and none of them were anti-gun trying to destroy the country from the inside. Even a monarchist like Alexander Hamilton believed arms belonged in the hands of the people.
