As usual, define "assault weapon". True Assault Weapons are Class III firearms, and already banned in Illinois. If he is referring to semi-automatics, good luck with that, as I would bet 50% of the rifles out there are semi-automatic. Rifles account for so few killing, that it statistically is meaningless. The vast majority of firearms shooting are handgun based.

How about this instead, we HANG every person that discharges a gun used in a crime. No appeals, sentence carried out 24 hours after the jury renders the verdict. Want to bet he would OPPOSE that?
