As usual, define "assault weapon". True Assault Weapons are Class III firearms, and already banned in Illinois. If he is referring to semi-automatics, good luck with that, as I would bet 50% of the rifles out there are semi-automatic. Rifles account for so few killing, that it statistically is meaningless. The vast majority of firearms shooting are handgun based.
How about this instead, we HANG every person that discharges a gun used in a crime. No appeals, sentence carried out 24 hours after the jury renders the verdict. Want to bet he would OPPOSE that?

It's interesting that after the long diatribe about what he accomplished regarding gun control, not a single word was present regarding the effects of the measures. I don't have the stats to hand, but the fact such statements were omitted draws you to one conclusion.

Completely agree, the fact that the tremendous reduction in gun crime that occurred (NOT!!!!), wasn't reported tells you that it was as successful as the laws in Chicago. Thus in terms of less gun crimes the laws (as we would say in Britain) are as useful as a chocolate teapot. However, as we all know, crime reduction is never the real agenda.
