I think I'd go for the 4-14x44, but I've seen way to many scopes that work fine on the AR-15 platform get destroyed on semi-auto .308 platforms. Many cannot handle the force of that bolt coming back. Mind you these scopes are fine for bolt guns, but I have to caution you on semi-auto 308 platforms. I've seen scopes moved from .50 cal bolt rifles fail pretty fast on semi-auto .308's. Still if you find one that can stand up to the beating, that' great. But I doubt you will find one sub $700. Just my experience. Although I have seen SWFA hold up pretty well, and are probably a good value. If you are putting a scope on .308 semi-auto platform, there is something to be said for that lifetime 'no questions asked warranty' some companies provide.
But for $280, it might be worth a flyer.
