I just saw it; fantastic! I did not read the book so I have nothing to compare the movie to, but for what the movie was, it told a good story. For me the most moving scene is when he's finally back, sitting at the bar on his cell phone, and hasn't come home to his family yet. The movie portrays how hard it is to stop "high alert" sensitivities Kyle went through in Iraq, then trying to calm down at home. I'm also glad Eastwood chose not to get graphic at the very end, when you already know what happened; no need to film it....excellent and tactful move on his part.
I think it is better not to have read the book first. It felt rushed and missing a lot the first time I saw it. The second time was much better. It has been a week since I saw it and two weeks since reading the book.

I am curious how it will seem tonight when I see it for the 3rd time.

Well another day of sold out tickets for American Sniper. Thank goodness we bought our tickets at 10:30 am for the 6:30 showing. We showed up 1 hr early and secured a great seat.

The movie well, it was all I thought it would be and more. Cooper did a very good job and it was not Hollywooded either. Can't wait to see it again and then to buy it on BR when it hits the stores.

I saw it up in Kenosha. There were maybe 20 people at the 3:50 showing so if you want to avoid lines that may be the place.

I thought it was a very good movie. I was impressed with Cooper, always thought he was just an average actor, but he was very good in this.
Had no trouble up in Round Lake; Tuesday night. Weekends don't seem too bad there, either. All the BS coming from the media, giving credence to anti-gun celebrities, like Michael Myers, I give no regard to. I took the movie for what it was and will not compare to the book.
Think I am going to try to make it out for a late showing of it this Friday!
I would love to get into detailed discussions, but I won't yet since people are still seeing it (for the first time).

I agree with Clint that this is only a political movie if you want it to be for either side. What I liked the most about Kyle, at least the way Cooper portrayed him, was the clarity of his convictions. The U.S. is the greatest country on earth, you defend it to your death, and there are bad guys and evil and they must be stopped even if that requires killing them all.

Anyone who suggest anything contrary is met with a genuinely confused look and the question, "Why would you say that?"
I have studied pre-WWII America in depth. We had a huge pacifist/isolationist population. All that ended after Pearl Harbor. Say what you will about Roosevelt, his speech asking for a declaration of war still is stirring. America came together overnight. The isolationists realized they were wrong, and overnight America was united. What we have today is a radical socialist anti-America population (better known as Democrats) that will never allow America to be united. We will be split between freedom and liberty loving capitalists and socialists that would use the bayonet to take from those that work to give to those that vote.
The President asking for a declaration of war?

Sometimes you almost forget we used to follow the Constitution.
Interesting comments coming from a F*****G LIBERAL:
Piers Morgan:
Kyle was just told to go and do his job; to aim his expert eye through the eye of a high-powered rifle barrel and shoot people – before they shot him or his fellow soldiers.

It’s what snipers are paid to do.

Chris Kyle, American Sniper, was NOT a coward.

He repeatedly risked his life serving his country in some of the most dangerous terrain on earth. And by doing his job so well, better than anyone in his country’s history, he saved many American lives.

… HE is a hero. A flawed hero, perhaps, but still a hero.
Going to see it in an Hour. Pretty stoked!

Wow, very intense. Make his murder even more senseless.

I agree 100%. You could not ask for a more down to earth person.
