Ok, I would like to post as I go but I get sidetracked easily. I have Mosin that I picked up last year from AIMSurplus for a decent $. Bought one with the octagonal barrel. It's year stamp was 1928. The first thing I noticed was the horrible stain that had been smeared onto it.

Spent some time breaking it down and doing some cleaning and inspecting before I took it out for some fun. Love it, and might get another. I like the character and history so I am not going to sand out the stamps, dents or dings that are in the stock.

Here it is broken down

I recently had a chance to fire my brother's P08. RDA did the safety / function test last month.

I was somewhat surprised on its limited recoil; probably due to its weight.

Holding it with two hands proved "interesting" as well, and I kept feeling like shooting it one handed.

It had some feed issues, but I think it was due to the old low grain ammo he was pushing through it. The stuff he bought from RDA seemed to work well, if I recall.

I did not enjoy loading the magazine, nor did I like its release mechanism.....but hey, who am I to complain!

Overall a neat experience. Too bad they're so darn expensive.

Hi all,

I have a full size scope on my Mosin currently but that hasn't worked out too well. I was thinking at some point replacing it with an actual scope that has the historic design specs as the original.

What I have now: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0081LT...UTF8&psc=1

Ebay has this reproduction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Russian-PU-Mosin...4897.l4275

Does RDA have any solutions?

Thanks

My grandfather brought this back with him when he returned from the Pacific in WWII. I believe he is the one who removed the handguard, shortened the stock, and probably ditched the cleaning rod and dust cover. The family lore says my grandfather used this for hunting and fired .30-06 out of it instead of 7.7x58mm. It is missing the follower and follower spring so I'm guessing he converted it to single shot. My father had refinished the wood at some point. He also had the gun disabled by clipping the firing pin. The mum was ground off during surrender so I'm assuming this came from a pile and not a battlefield. This series did not have sights with the anti-aircraft wings or the monopod.

From what I've found it is a 32nd series made by Toyo Kogyo in the latter half of 1943. Toyo Kogyo is still around today though it goes by "Mazda" now. The factory was near Hiroshima and wasn't destroyed when the atomic bomb was dropped but did close because they lost most of the workers.

The last two symbols indicate where it was made and the first symbol indicates the series. The rest of the number is the serial number. The last 3 digits should match the bolt and this one does.

This is not a "last ditch" version. The cocking knob is knurled, the barrel is chromed, the bolt is plum shaped, it has the smaller recoil bolt, it had the mum and other markings, and the butt plate is metal.
