Changing sights on modern pistols can be a bit challenging. Customers wanting night sights and high visibility sights is very common. The challenge is because the dovetailed sights are in their dovetails very tight; and I mean tight. Because the slide rail tracks are SO narrow, and the sights are in SO tight there is a danger to using the old fashion 'pound em out with a hammer and brass punch' method, the slide could crack at this location.

The first photo shows the area I am speaking of. Notice just how thin the slide is between the arrows.

The second photo shows the MGW tool which is what we use here at Red Dot Arms Gunsmithing to change sights. There are 4 pads which bear against the outside of the slide and support it there. And you can also see a T-shaped shoe which rides in the slide rails. This holds the slide down and keeps it from moving side to side. Hence it is supported both inside and out and with this support it is impossible to crack the slide.

The Third photo shows the slide mounted in the tool and you can see the support it has. The sights are moved in and out of their dovetails by a screw threaded saddle, which moves the sight positively, but without and undo pounding pressure.

Ok, I have been thinking after the range Thursday, I might want to get another CC firearm. I currently carry a FNS9C (12+1) for winter carry and a Ruger LC9S (7+1) for summer carry. I prefer manual safeties, I blame it on the 1911's of my youth. I am considering a Springfield XDe (10+1) SA/DA option as a second summer carry gun and a winter carry when I need smaller. I though about the Sig365, but it is only DA, which I didn't think was a great shooter, but it might just be the grip. Comments? suggestions? As an added bonus, the XDe has a 3 magazines for free bonus till the end of June.

I noticed in the "Brand Specific" that you do not have Steyr Arms listed. Just came across the M-A1 Pistol and the S-A1 Pistol. Of course there is no place in my little town that sells them. But I really want to get my hands on one. From what I have watched and read, I may even put this purschae ahead of my FN purchase.

Anyone out there have one and want to share some knowledge?

and look at their selection of firearms I am thinking I need another firearm. Today was no different. I looked at a FNX .45 caliber tactical. Letting me hold it was a huge mistake, as it fit my hand near perfectly. The firearm is all business. I love FN pistols as it is. This is now just blew me away with it's balance. Yes, it's pricy, but all high quality firearms are. This is now at the top of my want list, and the fact that it can easily take a Vortex Venom sight is like icing on the cake.

Every year 8 of us get together for a shooting weekend at a private range. This years theme is going to be handguns, a real first for us, as the closest we have come to that is 'Cowboy' weekend.

As such I am thinking I want to bring a new gun with for this...

Either a new Glock 20 (or 40, 10mm) or a Ruger SP100 in .357 Mag.) I am torn between the two. I have eliminated all other choices off my want list, and am trying to decide between these two. I don't own any wheel guns. And I have always wanted something in the 10mm powerful cartridge.

Which would you guys pick and why. It is sort of a fun ritual, We have been doing this shoot for 12 years running now. We shoot all day Saturday, clean Sunday morning, and Sunday afternoon we drink and tell stories. The losers of the Saturday competitions have to buy the pizza a beer, and they are the designated drivers.

So one more time, Ruger SP100 (.357 Mag) or Glock 20/40 (10mm)? Help me choose wisely. I'm likely to choose both, but my budget says only one. I will of course have to watch RDA's sales to see if the have one of these on special (Hint, Hint...)

Ok, I am no longer Glock free. I purchased a Glock 21 a few weeks ago. I have now put about 150 rounds through it. I don't see what the hype is all about. The sights are terrible. The trigger is Ok, but was expecting far better on a gun of this cost. It ate all the rounds so far save one, which upon further examination was a ammo issue (The bullet was seated almost a tenth of an inch too deep), so it was not the fault of the gun or magazine. I find accuracy to be about on par with Springfield but less than my 1911. Overall the gun may grow on me, but the idea of "Glock Perfection" is far from valid. At least the gun is comfortable to shoot and in this humble shooters opinion is better option than the Glock 19. I can't help wondering if the better choice is the Glock 20 in 10mm.
