I periodically watch YouTubes of Motorweek. I used to watch them on TV years ago. Pretty good reviews of cars, etc.

Is it my imagination, that many of the small to mid-size cars back in the 80/90s got pretty good MPG perhaps in the 24-25 area, and that new cars today aren't really that much better, 20-30 years later? I'm not completely sold that MPG has improved much over that last few decades.

Stands to reason that the big oil / automakers put a spin on improvements, but like weight gain creeps up on you, so does perception of false improvement, right?

I know things are better perhaps, but really, after 30 years the average midsize car only gets a few MPG better than before?

Thoughts?

Not sure how many folks keep a winch or tow ropes in their car. I'd expect it with most pickup / jeep owners, but the average driver, probably not.

I decided to use some the vast space in my Outback to store a come-along and 60 feet of tow ropes.

http://www.gemplers.com/product/G52261/P...Come-along

The tow ropes are most like seat belt style and have a 6000lb capacity.
http://www.harborfreight.com/6000-lb-cap...61226.html

Last weekend, I did a test at a park and experimented as to the manual winch force to pull my car around. Didn't take too much effort with brakes applied even.

Some of you may do this on a regular basis or have experience in such, but it's all new to me!
