I see we are up to Gen 4 Glocks. My old Glock duty weapons are old enough they didn't have a Generation designation. I guess making them Gen 0 or Gen 1's. Will the new Gen 4 magazines work in my old Glocks?

After 30 plus years I've finally had my first issue with a Glock, one of my Gen 1 G19's
This pistol has had every 9mm load I could find along with a few hot hand loads.

While at the range I started having a problem with the slide locking open after the last shot. I took out another 9mm and finished up with an hour and a half of fun times. When I got home, I inspected the bad G19 and found that the slide lock spring broke so it wasn't getting enough out of it to lock the slide back.

Rather than replacing the $5 slide lock assembly myself, I've decided to send it to Glock to have the frame upgraded to a Gen3. Glock charges $100 for the frame, any metal parts inside the frame are replaced,and 2nd expedited shipping to Glock.Glock pays for 2nd day freight on the way back.

I also talked to Glock about a cracked magazine I have (my 2nd one). Glock had problems with some earlier 9mm mags. The revised mags are all metal with a polymer casing. The body's on the "9mm" mags use to be almost all polymer. They also had a problem with some early magazine followers not fitting properly and showing excessive wear in a short period of time. Glock suggested I send the entire pistol in so the could be sure all my magazine were Aso upgraded they work with no issues.

Typically I'd say the manufacture is the most expensive place to have a firearm repaired. Although I only need a $5 part and can install it myself. Instead I'm getting an updated frame, all new parts in the frame and having my magazines inspected and replaced if found to be the early ones that are mostly polymer or have worn followers. Glock will also test fire the pistol to be sure everything is working.

I feel a $100 or under $150 with freight is a great deal.

Just saw posting today (I did not go to the show this year) and Glock is showing off new 10mm with a 6 inch barrel and some guns with dovetails cut into slides with factory red dot installed.

No single stack 9mm.

No Glock carbine.

Sigh....waiting for another year.

I have people ask me all the time about when Glock will release a single stack 9mm. This is my answer/opinion;

While Glock is concerned just as any other company with their customer service, the fact is they are a business. Businesses can not survive without critical thinking. That is why, despite the overwhelming demand for a single stack 9mm, they gave us the single stack .380 (model 42) instead.

It would have been a poor decision from a business standpoint to release the 9mm version first. If they had done the 9mm first, there would have been almost zero demand for the .380 later on. They have made a killing off the .380 now, the 9mm will follow shortly, when the sales level out with the 42. I imagine that most folks who bought the 42's will spring for the 9mm when it is released.

Personally, I am waiting out for the 9mm. Hopefully it won't be too long
