I store mine the same way, except I usually leave them in the original boxes. Yes, I use a few more ammo cans, but I am OK with it. .50 cal ammo cans is definitely the way to go. Every Christmas Bass Pro Shops has new .50 cal ammo cans at $9.99 (limit 10). They sell out fast, but are great. Usually you can get ammo cans for between $14-20 at many gun shops. If they are used, check them carefully. I add 3-4 packs to each one, but mine are almost 3 times the size he is using.
