Well given the circumstances, I don't think a 20 year veteran deserved to be fired over this. It is hard to keep someone from killing themselves if you know they are suicidal. He didn't. He was only negligent in providing the opportunity. She was an adult. Would the board have fired him if it was his wife? Doubtful. Given the circumstances and his career and pension, I think the Superintendent was correct and I think the suspension was warranted.
I think you need to consider his 20 years of good service in applying a punishment for what basically had zero criminal intent.
