Well to be fair the SEALS started in the early 60's and Jesse went to BUD/s in 1969. No one disputes his SEAL status.
In fact Mark Luttrell refused to criticize Ventura in an interview because he was a SEAL even though he was upset with him.
It actually said a lot about Lutrell's character.

From IMDb's biography on Ventura:
"Worked with Navy SEALs during the Vietnam War but never actually trained as one."
"Was a member of the Underwater Demolition Teams when he was in the Navy. The Underwater Demolition Teams were merged with the Navy SEALs in 1983, 8 years after Ventura left the Navy."
Ventura himself admitted to this on one of the Fox News shows, I think it was The Factor, then went back to saying he was a SEAL. Therefore Ventura was never officially a SEAL. I may have had my dates confused but not the fact that he wasn't a SEAL.
