I like .308x51, (hello my moniker...) but for Zombies, they don't seek cover, they move slow, they stand up in the open... No need for long range firepower, plus they don't shoot back. More rounds, aimed fire are best... The lighter the ammo the better...

Carrying 20 magazines in not a real problem for the AR15 (600 rds). Carrying 600 shotgun shells or 30 x 20 round .308 mags is a lot of weight. Even the really nice 25 round Magpul window SR/LR308 mags are heavy...
