One thing having kids has taught me is they are fast! If you take your eye off them even for one second trouble can happen. But Mike is right, she was irresponsible to a large degree. The weapon should have been on her person, and not in a purse. We have all seen kids at the checkout line grab things and put them in cart or on the line. Only later you ask yourself, where did that come from?
Once my ex said to me in the car, "You know all those SlimJim's aren't good for you, and I looked at her and said "What SlimJims"? When we got home there were like 8 of them. Seems my daughter took a liking to them and put them on the counter. My Wife assumed I did, and I didn't even see it...
