I am a strong believer in Iron Sights, but at my age and with my eyes not as good as they used to be, optics make more and more sense. Optics are probably one area you never want to skimp on, even though I am a cheapskate. Good glass can make any rifle a far more useful tool.
For example, I think the Vortex magnifiers are better than the EOTech ones and cost half what they do. I really think Vortex scopes give Leupold scopes a run for their money as well.
I agree what good glass can do for a rifle. I just received a set of magpul pro steel sight's from my buddy for my 60th birthday. I'm sure there's better ones out there but these serve the purpose and better yet they were a gift.
Like you 308 my ageing eyes can use all the help they can get. I'm taking my time getting a magnifier while I research Vortex, EOTech, Leupold and a few other's. As the Shot Show approaches I'm sure we'll see other'***** the market too. I also have a Leupold 3x9 50mm sitting on my shelf doing nothing. I may buy a cheap base for it and just for the heck of it try it on my ar.
