I dunno about militia groups, but you correct about strength in numbers. People need to sleep, and there are more skill sets available in more people. Critical services might be more readily available if needed as well.
I have done enough wilderness camping in the San Luis valley in Colorado in my younger days I feel I would be able to survive just fine. Working with others is about respect for their knowledge in areas you may be very weak. You can always learn.
But a group is more about agreements in planning, work and execution. Getting agreed upon things done. Having agreed upon plans in advance. So many things to plan for as well. Common agreed upon ammo, weapons, communications, security, direction.
There seem to be few organized groups out here, or they are remaining very off grid for security reasons.
