If you have the tools. I kinda like the idea of ignoring the Feds. But how do you sell such a homemade firearm? I checked online in Illinois gun laws. In Illinois for a 'homemade' firearm to be transferred it must be marked and serialized by the owner, and records kept per law. This law does not apply to firearms manufactured before serialization began. However, such older firearms must be described in the sale documents to the point that the description is unique.
You may run into problems with police as they will want to see that the firearm has not had serial numbers removed.
It appears to be quite a grey area in State law. At least in Illinois. We live in interesting times.
