Believe it or not, local government is more in our scope of control than national. Everyone goes for the big guns in light of "from the top, down". The recorder of deeds is another office in Lake County that could be consolidated into another department. Those taxes hit us harder than the federal government. Schools, the number one, by far, taxing drain... could consolidate elementary and high schools together for one district.
I live in the Johnsburg school district. A 20% enrollment drop from 4 years ago, they asked for 6,12,7 and 11% increases each of the last 4 years. Plus they borrowed 41 million for school building expansion. They have 6% more teachers on the payroll from 4 years ago. Controlling spending is impossible. The Teachers unions pack the taxing bodies and then they tax, tax, tax. It is the same everywhere. We need a 20% reduction in taxes, a slashing of the payroll to match students, and an end to empire building. I could understand this if there was a forecast for more students, but the forecast calls for continued declines.
