I.O. has a bad rep among the AK community because they have earned it. Anyone that knows these rifles avoids them. You are correct in there never having been a recall but they have had numerous have issues that required repair or replacement. Here's a video of one that didn't even make it to 2000 rounds before failing:

If you want a US built AK, get a PSA, DDI, or Definitive Arms.
PS: I'd buy a Hi-point, one of the carbines anyway, before I'd buy an I.O. Neither is at the top of my to buy list, though. ;)
