OK, Mike, I have looked over the NRA classes.
This is what I have found:
NRA Range Development and Operations course. Online, $300, and no prerequisites.
NRA Range Safety Officer. Online, $125, and Must have NRA Instructor rating in one or more disciplines.
So the hard part appears to be the NRA Instructor rating. This means learning the NRA way to teach safety and proper shooting methods. Plus being able to actually teach a course (No small feat). So, I guess, if I really want to be a Range Safety Officer, I would need to complete this training, even if I don't really desire to teach a class.
What would you recommend I do to achieve this status? Remember I have to overcome decades of doing things wrong. I have 5 years or so to accomplish this task. My current plan is to take the Self-Defense in and out of the home, the basic shotgun course and now I am thinking the basic rifle course as well. Do you know of an instructor training class in the area?
Ugh, so much to unlearn.
