It's the wussification of the FBI and some police agencies. I say some because the vast majority of the officers I know from the quad-state area I live in (Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia) carry either a .40 S&W or a .45 ACP. It's also telling that only a handful carry a Glock. Most are carrying either a Springfield XD/XDM, Beretta M96, a SIG, or a FN polymer frame. One sheriff's deputy is still carrying a S&W 27 revolver. He's nearing retirement and has been carrying it for almost 35 years. When he joined the department he works for, that was the standard issue pistol. If these wimps joining departments and the FBI today think the .40 S&W is too "snappy", I would hate to see what they would have thought about a S&W 27 in .357 Magnum.
