If we taxed enough for the government to do and only do what the constitution permits it to do, and we did so with an eye to be as efficient as possible, we would all have more money, there would be more jobs, we would all be better educated, and the quality of our collective output would be higher.
It is only when the progressives began to decide they needed to control how society changed and the socialists came along and gave a voice to the lazy and influenced how the progressives viewed that change did we start down our current road to mediocrity which leads to poverty and ignorance.
In other words, when we changed our motto from "if you don't work, you don't eat" to "everyone gets to eat" that was the beginning of the end.
When everyone gets to eat whether they work or not, eventually everyone stops working, even the most stouthearted. That is a fact, and a fact which we now know that no honest person can deny.
