"First, do no harm" - "given an existing problem, it may be better not to do something, or even to do nothing, than to risk causing more harm than good."
The fist thing we are taught in first aid is make sure the area is safe and you are safe, you can't help someone when you are also injured.
It may seem noble to declare you would take a bullet for your family, but what good does your death do them when the bad guy is still alive?
Your family needs you alive.
If we want to remain a nation that can provide aid when the world needs it, we need to maintain the ability to do so.
There is nothing compassionate in stupidity. When someone is mistaking stupidity for compassion that person is usually also mistaking righteousness for self-righteousness. Helping people on your terms when you feel like and when it is easy is not love, it's pride.
And let's not forget we are talking about what the government is doing or not. There is nothing Christian or unChristian in what the government does or does not do. The government is not the people, and what it does, does not make me or the people compassionate or Christian.
The government is to make sure the people entering the country are safe. Compassion has nothing to do with it. Compassion comes from me when the people get here. And on that level the compassion will be real.
