From what I was reading before, it has the potential to do damage like that, especially since our system runs pretty close to our maximum capacity already. So it wouldn't take very much to push it over the limit. From what I heard though it's most likely just going to screw with radio signals. It's definitely worth another look though..
So from what I've read up a little more it wouldn't be like an EMP, it would just potentially knock out the power grid. which would still render our electronics useless and put us in the dark...
