Great question! Most aspects of cleaning the shotgun are very similar to that in cleaning a rifle except for one critical step. The plastic wadding used in shotgun shells can leave a residue in the barrel which can affect performance and function. Most of the conventional gun cleaners will not to an adequate job of removing that. You should use a shotgun specific bore cleaner to remove that residue first. Then you may continue with you cleaning and lube product of choice. Good shooting!
P.S. in most shotgun when it comes to oil, less is more!
