It's been my experience that .357 magnum is not the hand and wrist killer some make it out to be. That might have to do with the fact that I'm not a little guy and that I've been shooting that caliber off and on since I was 9-10 years old. If I had to pick between a .357 and a .44 I'm going with the .357. It's lighter on the recoil and you can still drop most critters on the North American continent with it if need be. The only two that may pose a problem would be brown or polar bears and neither live in West Virginia.
I've personally been thinking about getting another S&W in .357 to replace the Model 66 I had to sell years ago. If I do it might be one of the newer 7-8 round varieties. Of course this is just one of the many weapons I'm considering buying right now that I don't have the money to do so, lol.
