Well, as I read this, lots of questions popped into my head; finally I started at the beginning and wrote down some points:
1. Violent States vs Violent Cities. I think States are not overall violent; it's usually the cities or large groups of people where crime occurs - natural for humans to lash out at eachother when in close proximity / bound to happen!
2. Masculine Duty? How about women?
3. Seems guns are first choice protection and the first to reach for in a conflict situation. How about a can of pepper spray? Yeah, I know, better not give the bad guy a second chance. How about that rape scenario: I think using a can of mace would be more effective; with gun as an immediate second. I know this point is open for debate.
4. Hero role? No, one shouldn't see oneself as a hero nor strive to be. Hero'ship comes after the deed is done. Some gun owners can take things too far and actually escalate things.
5. Seems the pro-gun crowd should really adapt one PRIMARY mantra: "We own and carry guns because the 2nd Amendment gives us that right. The 2nd Amendment is there for us to empower us to object to an overreaching government". I'm tired of the over-analyzing, the hunting debate, the "god given right" speech, etc. The NRA should really come up with ONE slogan around what I put here.
Just my two cents.
