They're very nice. Thick receivers and bull barrels make for a very easy to shoot rifle. They're like a Romanian PSL on steroids in the 23" variety. They also have 27", 20", and 16" carbine models. When they're in stock Atlantic Firearms is usually the go to place to get one. They sell out real fast over there. The Zastava M91 would give the 23" Vepr a run for its money. I wouldn't want to be in the crosshairs of either rifle.
For the scope mount get a RS Regulate one that goes on the side rail on the rifle's receiver. Their widely held to be the best AK scope mount. With it you can use any scope rings that mount to a 1913 rail. You can disconnect it from the rifle, and unless you bang it around, will maintain zero when field stripping and cleaning the rifle.
