I'm happy that I started doing the training logs and things like that because it keeps me more aware of if I'm getting anything useful done. If I'm not writing it down it's easy to forget to do a days practice. or easier to let it slide. But when you're keeping track it's there to remind you next time that you were slacking!

Also, I think martial arts class' are a great way of keeping better situational awareness and learning to deal with close distance threats.
