Police in Small Wisconsin City Want Residents to Volunteer to Have Their Homes Searched for Guns

Police in Beloit, Wisconsin, want residents to volunteer to let officers search their homes for firearms as part of a new initiative that officials believe will help reduce gun violence.

Beloit Police Chief Norm Jacobs told Wisconsin Public Radio that officers will mostly be looking for guns in homes that residents might not even be aware of.

“That’s really what we’re looking for. Maybe we’ll find a toy gun that’s been altered by a youngster in the house — and we know the tragedies that can occur there on occasion,” he added.

Jacobs also told WPR that “gun violence is as serious as the Ebola virus.” The home searches, he argued, are similar to a vaccine to strengthen the city’s immune system, the report stated.

That being said, the police chief admitted he isn’t anticipating a stampede of residents eager to have their homes searched.

In 2014, there have reportedly been seven gun-related homicides in Beloit. Most have victims have been teenagers or men in their 20s.

Yeah that doesn't sound like a real Wisconsin town, must be the proximity to Illinois affecting them

Oh, Madison has more evil in it than any town in Illinois.

The People's Republic of Madison influence doesn't really leave Dane County.

They are kidding right? I suggest they start with all the homes of the City council and Police there...

What are they going to do if they find a weapon? Guns are legal in Wisconsin correct? The gun grabbers are not in power there? Communists and Socialist scumbags want to outlaw the Second Amendment again?

How about the Police come back with a Warrant like the Constitution says? How about they do their job and get the criminals off the street, and quit harassing the law abiding? That Police Chief has to be the dumbest Officer in the entire country!

I bet he thought it sounded a lot cooler in his head, since it sounds pretty dumb when spoken.

Haha true that plains. And how is he comparing it to Ebola? I there's not really much of anything in common at all! Except attempting to push fear into the people..

What a f'n joke. This guy is off his freaking rocker if he really thinks that people are going to go for this. And what happens when they do find guns in someones home? Legally they couldn't do anything anyways but sure but they will try to get them for something just so they can take the guns with them when they leave.

RE: Police in Small Wisconsin City Want Residents to Volunteer to Have Their Homes Search - mikereddot - 12-10-2014

Yeah, but little by little, the fourth amendment is being trashed and we are having a more and more of a police state.

It appears as if Sheriff Horseass has rescinded his generous search-and-seizure offer:

Wonder how much heat he got for that....MORON.

I swear people don't think anymore before they act or say stupid stuff. In what right mind would someone think that would have gone over well?

RE: Police in Small Wisconsin City Want Residents to Volunteer to Have Their Homes Search - BelieveIn308 - 12-12-2014

Besides that, I wonder what law would give them the right to seize any weapons... and as to transferring ownership of a lawful firearm to a police department, probably requires an FFL transfer. Would not the police be breaking the law even if the owner were to voluntarily want to give up the weapon?

Sometimes I don't know what some police are thinking. Don't they still take oaths to UPHOLD the Constitution and Laws?

Chief Norm Jacobs said he's seen "25-year-old men" who can "barely read on a fifth grade level... but they know how to work a gun."

It sounds like this guy has never been outside of Beloit. In parts of Chicago it's unusual that the 5th graders don't have a gun or a Pre-School education.
