First Firearm - burgehouse89 - 06-18-2014
I have yet to own a firearm but I would like to change that soon. I am just looking for some tips on what others look for when they are in the market for a new firearm and maybe tips that you would give a first timer such as myself.

Come in to the shop when you have some time to spend. You need to hold and feel as many as possible to find the brand that fits YOU the best. Don't take the opinions of other people (especially brand snobs) to heart. Take them for what they are worth. Every brand will have people that dislike their guns for one reason or another. None of them are perfect. We will get you outfitted with the best option for you.

In the basic pistol class, we can have rent firearms to get a better idea one what you may like.

Go to RDA, touch/feel the gun of your choice and ask lots of questions. Do research on internet then go back to RDA, take Basic Pistol Class and rent several guns. Your decision on purchasing a gun once you've fired a few will be much easier. I took the basic pistol class at RDA and was very impressed. Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words Mike25. If you like the basic Pistol, wait until you do PPITH and PPOTH. Those are very good.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! That makes sense that the only way of getting to know what I would want is by purely holding it and testing them out.
What kind of questions should I be asking when looking at the various firearms?
I will look into the basic pistol class. I see on the RDA website there is "NRA FIRST steps pistol", is this the class that you both are referring to?

Firs steps will not cover enough for you to be comfortable with shooting. A good starter class would be the 8 hour NRA Basic Pistol class.

THAT'S A GREAT CLASS. I can confidently say, the cost of the class will be less than you would spend trying to learn it all on your own.
