First AR Recommendations - Ronin6094 - 11-25-2014

I've been shooting for a couple years now. And I'm looking to upgrade from a .22 to a .223. I have some AR's in mind, such as the H&K MR556A1 and the Daniel Defense M4 but I still haven't decided yet. I'm leaning towards the H&K. I was hoping you guys could recommend some good quality AR's or maybe give some knowledge on the H&K if you own it or have had experience with it. Any responses will be taken to mind. Thank you.

Welcome Ronin! When you decide on a particular AR, please go to www.RedDotArms contact us page, and send us what you are looking for. We'd love to give you a quote on your new toy.

I cannot comment on the HK in 5.56mm, but if it is anything like my HK91, it will be built like a tank, and more reliable than an AK47. I have a Colt LE6920 and it's a fine weapon for a direct inpingement rifle. I also have a Ruger SR-762 which is the piston version AR, that is the big brother of the SR-556. If the SR-556 is anything like the SR-762, I'd take a good hard look at that too. That is likely going to be my next AR15 type. I think the HK's are pretty pricey today, but always seem to hold their value.

Hey Mike, what ever happened to the HK section you were going to add to the forum?

I'm looking into ar's myself, and I've decided to try and build mine. There's a few links to some that I liked, but the ones 308 is mentioning would be better. My uncle has a Daniel defense rifle and he loves it

RE: First AR Recommendations - Ammo Lynn - 11-26-2014

I have loaded custom ammo for the H&K and the Daniel. Both are great guns, both shoot well. My preference is the Daniel because the trigger (this was a stock M4) felt crisper and was a touch lighter than the H&K. Both are adjustable and you should feel both of them and make a decision on which you prefer. While you are at it, test the reset, again I liked the feel of the Daniel over the H&K which like their pistols had a touch of squish on reset before getting up against the break. Short resetting the H&K made a bid difference in my profile shooting at 100 yds btw.. The guns I tested both had 20" w 7" Twist barrels with Wylde Chambers so they are not going to be comparable to a carbine length barreled gun for comparison.

RE: First AR Recommendations - BelieveIn308 - 11-26-2014

I've replaced the triggers on my AR15 and AR10 platforms with Geissele SSA-E triggers. It's a light trigger, but its way better than any of the standard military triggers most AR's come with. And I have had trigger work done on my HK91 railroad tie so it's a nice 5lb pull. A decent trigger is really a necessity on a good rifle. You would think they would come with decent triggers at the price levels of these rifles.
