Bersa Thunder 380 - jfergus7 - 10-15-2014

I am curious if anyone has this gun. Even more interested if your wife or girlfriend or any of the female forum members have it. My girlfriend is interested in getting it. I have looked all over at all the local shops that rent guns in hopes of letting her shoot one first but no luck so all I guess she can go off of is reviews. Any feedback would be appreciated!

I've never shot one. That's a small gun. What's the purpose of the gun for your girlfriend? She an experienced shooter?

RE: Bersa Thunder 380 - jfergus7 - 10-15-2014

She has been looking for her first conceal carry pistol. She has been shooting my 9mm's and is comfortable but she seems to want to get this one based on comfort, design and price. They have a pink grip version with case and extra magazine for breast cancer. I have no problem with her getting what she wants I just would like her to try it first if possible. I think I would rather her carry something else but I just want to encourage her to carry so based on that I will get her what she wants.

RE: Bersa Thunder 380 - mikereddot - 10-16-2014

What would be your choice?

RE: Bersa Thunder 380 - jfergus7 - 10-16-2014

I guess that response was really due to a lack of knowledge and experience with the Bersa. I am a fan of the smaller framed Rugers or a Springfield but again that is just personal preference. I just want her to get what she will be happy with and have no problem if it's the Bersa.

RE: Bersa Thunder 380 - mikereddot - 10-16-2014

Oh I agree, she needs to get what she wants. Otherwise, she may not carry or even worse, not practice with it.

RE: Bersa Thunder 380 - jfergus7 - 10-16-2014

Ya she was looking at it at Red dot the other day and seems to be the one she likes the most so far! Just wish she could shoot it.

I have a friend who started with the Bersa 380 and she loved it initially. But once she actually started carrying it regularly, IWB appendix, she found it wasn't as comfortable and concealable as she'd initially thought, and she switched to a S&W M&P Shield (9mm).

But generally, how your girlfriend intends to carry will make a world of difference to whether the Bursa is a good choice for her. The taller one is, the more room they are likely to have between rib cage and waist/hips, and therefore, a larger gun like the Bursa will be comfortable to carry on body, where it wouldn't be on a shorter woman. On the other hand, if she's going to carry in a handbag, none of that matters.

HI...sorry for the late post. I own a Thunder 380. Got it last December. I really like it. Well built, has had virtually no reliability issues, although it choked on one round of defensive hollowpoints once. The rest fired OK. Might have been the magazine. I've been using it as my only CC option, but I'm slightly concerned about it printing (even a little) through my clothing, despite its small size. I don't have the CC model either, which I'm sure would be much better. The 380 ammo can be a challenge to find, but I've rarely had any issues finding target ammo at Red Dot. I had to buy my defensive rounds from Cabelas. Perhaps Red Dot has it in stock now? If you're still stuck, let me know and I'll let you test fire it at the range once.

Don't' forget folks, to help me out, please find your gun on the www.reddotarms.com site and add a review. That really helps me for Google indexing. The better the site does, the more Red Dot will have available for you.

Thanks for the offer! I know last time my girlfriend and I went looking at guns for her she was still very interested in this one but really wanted to fire it first and we have looked everywhere for one to rent but none of the local ranges carry this one.

Well we were finally able to find a Bersa for her to shoot. To be honest I don't think that either of us were all that impressed with it which is good that I don't have to purchase a pistol that I don't like. Now onto the task of finding something that she does like and will want to carry with her.

Perhaps the recoil / blowback design? Curious.

Have her try the Ruger LC380. My wife loves hers. If she can handle the 9mm in a frame that small the LC9 and LC9S also make nice choices.

RE: Bersa Thunder 380 - bradberry - 01-24-2015

I like my G42 from Glock. 380 and its easy to conceal and its light weight.

RE: Bersa Thunder 380 - BelieveIn308 - 01-24-2015

LC9S is way better than the LC9, IMHO. The trigger is so superior. And being 'striker' fired it recycles much better and is way less 'snappy' so you stay on target. There are so many great choices today in CCW firearms. Glock, SA XDs, just to name some...

RE: Bersa Thunder 380 - AcilletaM - 01-24-2015

I would avoid the LC9, horrible trigger. Love my Sig P938.

RE: Bersa Thunder 380 - rwhite135 - 01-25-2015

I personally don't like Glocks. I never did starting with the first time I fired my neighbor's police issue G17 back in '89. The Sig I like but price might be an issue if the first gun was a Bersa. Another option would be the EAA Witness Pavona, which won this year's NRA Golden Bullseye Award for Best Weapon for a Woman. I was tempted buy the .40S&W model for my own use but it was just too sparkly. Your best bet is to have her try a few different weapons and see what feels good to her and fits whatever her budget is.

RE: Bersa Thunder 380 - jfergus7 - 01-26-2015

I actually have a LC9S and she really enjoys shooting it. Actually hoping that once she gets her conceal carry she will want to carry that one so I can get myself a new pistol but I will let her decide what she wants to do. And I agree the LC9S trigger is 100 times better then the original LC9

RE: Bersa Thunder 380 - ssphoto - 01-27-2015

Sig 938 is top notch!
