Green or Red - Rodney - 09-20-2014

Which laser sight do you have, green or red?

RE: Green or Red - Ringo3632 - 09-21-2014

Neither yet, bit I would like the green personally... That's what I'll be shopping for. Maybe a small one for my XDs.

I'm also torn... I've had some people warn me about becoming dependent on the laser when I've mentioned them

RE: Green or Red - The Great Oz - 09-21-2014

I don't care for them myself. Shows me how much I shake and distracts me.

RE: Green or Red - Ringo3632 - 09-21-2014

Never really thought about it being a distraction... I could see it making me take longer to make the shot because I'm trying to find the laser instead of going off training and using the site.

Seems like something I'd buy, enjoy using it here and there. Can't say much though.. Haha I haven't tried one at all

RE: Green or Red - The Great Oz - 09-21-2014

The only purpose for a laser is when you really can't make the shot because you can't get your sights on target. I.E from under the car.

RE: Green or Red - Brian S - 09-25-2014

Steve New recommended green for my needs, wants and gotta haves. I've known Steve for a better part of my life and know he won't steer "anyone" wrong. I picked up a relatively inexpensive one at Red Dot.

RE: Green or Red - Ringo3632 - 09-25-2014

I'd believe what he says as well. Haha did he give any particular reason for green?

Mike does your laser shake more than 3" groupings?

Seriously now...My preferences-
Handgun target shooting-target sights.
Centerfire rifle for hunting or sniper usage-good scope.
Shotgun for bird shooting-hi-vis bead
Shotgun for home defense 18.5"barrel...sights are optional.

What's your preferences. I'm always open to other options.

Green=Better visibility in daylight.

Seems to make sence as we see construction safety vest's are hi vis green, chartreuse, fire-tiger...all the same.

I'm a bit surprised the DNR hasn't gone to bright green rather than orange or at least made it an option. Could be orange is an LEO warning of firearms present...

RE: Green or Red - mikereddot - 09-25-2014

Brian S - LOL no, but still shows me shaking and I find it distracts me. Just call me ole school.

RE: Green or Red - Ringo3632 - 09-25-2014

Makes sense. I only picked liking green better cause my brother had a green laser we would play with. Lol but I could see the shake being distracting. I want to see how much I shake.

And I think you got it on the head for the use of the orange vests. Firearms/hunting are the first things to come to mind when I see orange. I guess besides construction zones... But even then it's a thought

Ole school is good, it's like riding a bike without training wheels, you never forget how...

The human eye picks up the most variants of the color green. It is the easiest for us to spot, so it makes sense to use a green laser for any time of day, even bright sunlight conditions.

RE: Green or Red - Ringo3632 - 09-26-2014

That would probably make sense why we like it more. Now I have an actual good reason for wanting the green one!

RE: Green or Red - RJDSRT - 09-26-2014

Good deal! Check out Viridian's line of product. They make some cool schtuffs.

RE: Green or Red - Ringo3632 - 09-27-2014

I do like viridian's products. I'd looked at them before just haven't been ready to make the commitment for the price yet... Hopefully one of these days though!

RE: Green or Red - RJDSRT - 10-01-2014

It is worth the investment! I need to get a C5L. Love those things

RE: Green or Red - BelieveIn308 - 10-01-2014

Hmmm... I have used the StreamLight TLR-4 on my pistol. It has a red laser (green is available for like $180 more). It is cost effective (about $117). 110 lumens. Seems plenty bright indoors. The thing I like about it is that it is shorter. Doesn't stick out way past the muzzle.

RE: Green or Red - Ringo3632 - 10-01-2014

I should look into something soonish... Do you have anything you mount to your long guns?

I never even considered lights on my long guns till I read this forum. I always considered my primary house gun a Springfield XD (.40SW), which I have a flashlight on. I wouldn't put one on my .308 rifles. I however have ordered one for my AR. I chose an StreamLight TLR-1 HL light (630 Lumens) price was like $145. I am not sure if I should mount it on the AR or a 870. What do you think. I don't think I would use the AR indoors ever, as there are other homes within 100 yds. Steve New says that the AR is less risky penetration wise than pistol ammo, and from what I have found he is correct.

RE: Green or Red - Ringo3632 - 10-01-2014

I was asking because I was curious about using one on the shotgun at some point. But if I had an AR I think that would be my choice... Frangible rounds being better for indoors like Steve said... But since I don't yet I was wondering for shotguns =]
