While reading this article, all I could think of are the ATM smash and grab's I see in the news almost weekly.

Watch for Chicago to follow suit and contract (political favor) an outside company to install "Gun Drop Boxes" on every street corner of Safe Passage Routes and NCZ's.

What a great idea. We'll no longer have to worry about criminals breaking into private residences to steal guns anymore.

It sure makes me feel more safe now...How about you?

Doesn't every state and city have this already? Big huge brick drop box called a Police Station? Last I checked its not really working. What a stupid f'n idea.

Well, maybe the gang bangers would just rob the drop box?

RE: Tacoma Mulls Over Gun Drop Boxes - rwhite135 - 09-09-2015

Won't do them any good if there's nothing in it and they'll know it's empty because they're not making a deposit.

RE: Tacoma Mulls Over Gun Drop Boxes - BelieveIn308 - 09-10-2015

I haven't figured out why a street thug with an illegal gun worth money, would just not sell it to some other street thug... Or maybe these guys plan to have the boxes dispense cash for the guns?

It will get used, a lot.

What better place to discard the murder weapon? The police will find the gun, but they can't use it in court.

RE: Tacoma Mulls Over Gun Drop Boxes - rwhite135 - 09-10-2015

Nah, most murder weapons in that kind of crime are never recovered nor are the crimes solved. Getting rid of the weapon won't be incentive to use the box.

If you were a gang banger, wouldn't you? I know I would if I were in their shoes.

If they are not recovered it is because the perpetrator got rid of it.

Now they don't have to bother with hiding it, destroying it, or anything else. They can just walk up and hand it to the police and by doing so make it inadmissible.

This is the dumbest of the dumbass ideas these guys have come up with yet.

RE: Tacoma Mulls Over Gun Drop Boxes - rwhite135 - 09-11-2015

If they're going to get rid of a murder weapon it's a much safer bet for them to throw it into a river lake, or the Pacific Ocean. Being this is in Tacoma, a short drive to the Pacific would be how I'd do it. Salt water and firearms don't mix, especially cheap firearms.

Tacoma Mulls Over Gun Drop Boxes - AcilletaM - 09-11-2015

Liberals don't believe they would do that because that would be littering and criminals wouldn't do that because there is a law against it

RE: Tacoma Mulls Over Gun Drop Boxes - Dutz - 09-11-2015

Actually it would not be better in the ocean. The salt water may not let it work again, but you can still get evidence off it. Once you use the drop box it can't be used against you under any circumstances. It's a criminal's dream come true.

RE: Tacoma Mulls Over Gun Drop Boxes - rwhite135 - 09-12-2015

The area around Seattle and Tacoma isn't exactly going to be the best place for authorities to try to find a gun either. You throw it in at the right spot and it will never be found. If I were a criminal, I wouldn't trust putting a handgun used in a crime in one of those boxes. Then again the type of people that would commit those kinds of crimes aren't always the brightest bulb in the box.

RE: Tacoma Mulls Over Gun Drop Boxes - Brian S - 09-15-2015

I'm going to inquire about getting a contract to recycle the contents of the boxes.. :-)

Goes to show that those people really don't have any idea how the minds of criminals work and/or are really helpless in preventing crime. I hate to say it, but most times the police just clean up and document, not prevent.
