This is the problem with the gun control debate. I had for a long time assumed that people would be open to a reasonable discussion about the topic, and open to evaluating the facts. Now I've decided you get a more reasoned response from a brick wall. It's not about rational thought, it's preconceived agenda. Is there any point trying to convince a liberal flower pot that refuses to accept the possibility that there even is another viewpoint?

If not a gun it will be something else. A sword, an ax, a baseball bat (cricket bat for the Brits). Lunatics running free in society is the problem. We used to lock up the mentally unstable, but the democrats freed them and closed the mental hospitals. Liberals continue to believe criminals and lunatics will obey Gun laws and Signs. Like a Bank Robber will not park his get away car in the handicap zone.
Yet when confronted with an armed criminal or lunatic they always call for ARMED police. Why would these same liberals suddenly believe they need a good guy with a gun? Their idiotic political agenda always overrides common sense, until THEIR life is on the line. Then they want lots of Armed good guys around. And yet it is these same morons that are out beating up on the Police, the same good good guys that respond to calls for help.

I can never figure out if liberals really believe what they say is true, or whether it's a
Scam they think will make them seem superior to everyone else. Liberals seem to be completely inept at understanding human behaviour. Release mentally ill patients into society, and surprise homelessness goes up. Corrupt the meaning of marriage and family, and surprise delinquency goes up. Call somewhere a gun free zone, surprise bad guys bring guns. Decide the Iranians are really swell guys who will live up to all the agreements, surprise they have nukes pointed at USA and Israel. I guess for an ideology that is wrong 100% of the time! it should be listed as a mental illness.

There are two things in play here. First, liberal policies are a facade to get support for things you would not support.
They want to confiscate guns which few will support, so they call it background checks which people do support.
They want to confiscate wealth, i.e. steal it (and keep it, btw), which no one will support, so they say they are taking from rich and giving to poor. That didn't work so well either, so they called it a "war on poverty" which people will support.
They want to take America's wealth and give to to whomever. No one will support that, so they called it Global Warming and tried to "tax" us. Then we discovered there was no warming, so they called it Climate Change. Then we discovered there was no real change, so they now call it Climate Effect. When we discover there is no effect, who knows what it will be called. Reality, they just want our money.
The second thing in play is people want to feel good about themselves without actually doing anything, so they go along with the names they give the facades because that provides a means to feel good without effort. When you say I am "tolerant", or I am "charitable" because of how I think, I don't have to act. I can be the selfish bastar* that I am and pretend I am not.

Our founding fathers understood this. Their idea was to keep government SMALL. Instead we now have run away government consuming 24.5% of GDP. That is not sustainable, and this will not end well. The Brits and Germans used to be able to get away with a welfare state, becuase they had few on welfare. Now they have plenty. Imagine that, if you give away money, you will encourage more to collect it! Socialism/Communism/Progressives/Democrats are not the friends of Freedom and Liberty, they are the mortal enemies of it.
