RE: GTR range in Waukegan - Dutz - 02-15-2015 They don't allow conceal carry. I don't know if that is anti-2nd, and I don't that it isn't. What I do know is it is not about safety. That is ludicrous. If they think it is about safety, then they don't know much about safety. I carry in Chilli's and it is perfectly safe there. They should call Chilli's and ask them how they do it. If it is not really about safety and they say it is, then they are not being honest. So they are either dishonest or clueless about safety. Neither one is good. If you spend money at Bristol you are supporting a Anti 2A business. Support Bristol help's Support Anti 2A Ah ok so Introducing generations to shoot Having classes to teach people to shoot Having shooting tournament's Hosting various leagued Raffeling off guns to support veterans etc etc etc All of this doesn't make then pro second, I don't know what would. They have done more for shooting than you and I will ever. So before CC was all of Illinois anti second?since you couldn't carry a gun. Is that what it al boils down to? If anything purposefuly cuting down at other ranges and groups since they are not "pure" as you is more if a case of anti II. But than again I am not the arbiter of the seconded,it seems you guys are. RE: GTR range in Waukegan - fromtheplaines - 02-16-2015 (02-15-2015, 11:38 PM)Dutz Wrote: They don't allow conceal carry. I like where this point is going.I want to give it the time for a good response. But breakfast calls RE: GTR range in Waukegan - BelieveIn308 - 02-16-2015 fromtheplaines... You are not going to change anyones opinion of the range. They have EARNED their bad reputation and they will have to live with it. Why put up with their BS, when you can go to a real range like McMiller or OnTarget? None of the idiotic rules, CC Welcome (obviously they solved the safety issue!), and far better RSO's. Bristol is unfriendly, you say unsafe enough to need a one bullet rule... We called it the "Barney Fife" rule, and the RSO practically asked us to leave. Zero sense of humor. So once again, you are free to support Bristol. I encourage anyone interested in the shooting sports to go elsewhere. Don't spend your money where you are treated poorly. Here is some more breakfast food for thought. The Round Lake Beach Police Department, The Lake County Sheriff's Department, The Illinois State Police, The Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Red Dot Arms have all declared me safe to carry a concealed weapon. Between them they have used training certificates, background checks, any pertinent psychological evaluations, and hands on testing and observation to make this determination. Bristol, without one single piece of evidence, has declared all of them wrong. I say to them what I say to all who tell me that. "Ba Bye" And you may say they are not telling me personally....Oh...yes...they...are. And if they don't know they are, then they are not only clueless about safety, they are clueless about business. RE: GTR range in Waukegan - Rodney - 02-16-2015 Many reasons listed above is why I joined Racine Rifle Club. Covered and lighted 100 yard range, a pistol range, 70 yard range, 500 yard range and a 600 yard range plus an area for over night camping area. Never done camping but I would like to try it over a weekend this summer on the range. I mainly use the 100, 70 and pistol ranges but this summer I would like to try the 600 yard range. Members are great and everyone is an RSO (every member must do a safety walk before that allowed on the range). If you see unsafe firearm handling then speak up or report to the CRSO. You must bring into the range anything you may need when shooting and then take everything with you when you leave (including trash). Anything includes targets, stands, ammo etc. All for a yearly fee of $60. You must be an NRA member to join. You also do need to put in 100 hours of work on the range over 3 years to become full member but I think it's worth it. If so, did I ever mentioned how much I enjoy your posts? Associate members are new members with less then 100 hours of service. The sponsor member and the new associate member must attend a signup meeting at the same time and complete a safety walk. A safety walk normally takes about 1 1/2 hours. I should check it out. I remember being in the trench lifting targets on a hot day! What's the best way to get a sponsor; go and meet in person. ?How's that usually work? Best way to get a sponsor is attend a board meeting that occurs once a month and ask the board for a list of available work hours. Contact the person running the match, work a couple of matches and ask the person running the match if they would sponsor you. The list of matches looking for workers for 2015 should be coming out soon. I think the next board meeting is in March. You will need to fill out an application 2 weeks before the meeting and mail/email it into the club. Hope this helps. However, at least for this year, and the initial fees, I'm trying to finance a kitchen remodel and won't be able to do both. Definitely worth looking at sometime next year. RE: GTR range in Waukegan - ssphoto - 02-23-2015 Just went to GTR again yesterday. Very busy, much more so that a few weeks ago. But, they got me in almost immediately. The RO came over to ask if I had any questions, which I thought was very cool! Seems like a top notch outfit there. This time I brought my staple gun for tacking targets; much easier this time. One employee highly encouraged I join, and after reviewing the membership, I may very well join. At first I thought I'd have to pay nearly a full admission even as a member, but looking on their website again, they do give you the first 10 hours "free" and that is probably what I'd spend annually anyway. Still a toss up if you look at numbers. I figure going at least 8 times a year would pay for itself. I'm a relatively new shooter (just under a year now) but old (mid-40's). lol Just handgun at the moment, but went to some USPSA matches, and met a couple guys that are members of Racine RC. I'd be interested in joining, because I'm in Kenosha. I'm planning an AR build at the moment, and would like to do more rifle shooting. Been to McMiller a couple times last year, and liked it, but kind of a haul, which I don't mind occasionally. I wanted to go check out RRC last year, but I believed it was closed do to a rebuild of berms, etc? Is all of that done now? Is it open year round? Thanks! Non vet are higher. RE: GTR range in Waukegan - Rodney - 02-23-2015 (02-23-2015, 03:51 PM)Jrowland96 Wrote: Thanks for the information Rodney! Hi John, the rebuild of the RCLRC berms was completed last year and the range is open currently to members. Normal hours for members are from 6:00am to 10:00pm and the range is open year round (weather permitting). Since it's a members only range you can't just walk onto the range, you will need a member to walk you around and also to sponsor you if you decide to join. Hope this helps. RE: GTR range in Waukegan - Dutz - 02-24-2015 Basic single membership is $450 and you get 10 hours free. So you pay $250 you don't get back. OnTarget is $250 and you get all hours half price. Every hour you go you "get back" $10. So with the same 10 visits you pay $150. If you go twice a month, OnTarget is free. So you pay $250 you don't get back. That is not entirely true. The extra $250 to GTR is for the membership perks like using the member lounge, emulator, and reserving time. So the question is are the perks worth $250. To me, not really. The values at GTR are the active duty/vet package because you are basically getting the perks for free and the highest package (I don't remember the name of it) which also gets you the perks for free or thereabouts. The highest package is for instructors or people who know they will shoot one a week or more. The rest you are paying for the perks.
