In my mind the next most important items you need I will call tools and they can be heavy. An excellent quality knife (I'm old school and like my Kabar), a good quality entrenching tool, the best multi-tool you can afford and last but not least a good quality folding saw (you can have a cheap wire type saw as a backup).

These items should not be skimped on.

I have all of these.
