Curious if anyone on the site ice fishes? I have a house on Lake Shangri-La and ice fish every chance I can. Walked out on the ice this morning but was only able to get about 15 feet out before deciding it was a better idea to head back to shore. Can't wait to get out and start catching some fish soon though!

Same here; tried as a kid on Diamond Lake in Mundelein, and froze my butt off with little to show for it. I hear that in some areas, there's big business in renting ice cabins that they drag out onto the lake and remain there all winter. They are heated, have TV, etc. Luxury!
I am just hoping I get to hit the ice this year without having to drive hours north. Can't wait to get out!

Lake Shangri-La derby is this weekend! If any ice fisherman want to get out and enjoy what should be a beautiful weekend on the ice let me know! I will be out all day Saturday!
What bait do you use to fish for ice?
I use Whiskey, and I catch a lot of ice. Scotch doesn't work as well for me. Kinda neat huh.
I use to but I never got the hang of casting into that little hole with mitt's on let alone get a fish out of it. I found out later you can't use a 7 foot pole it puts you to far back. Learn something new everyday.

We ice fish in the UP over Thanksgiving, 2nd weekend in December and Christmas week. Love it
Mostly it is just a big party all day but we do tip-up fish. Mostly medium and large roaches and lots of liquor!

Should have come out to the derby Saturday! Had a great group of people, ton's of food and booze! Was an awesome day on the lake and even had a few fish!
