I have a Spanish mauser that is in rough shape. Wal-Mart has some cheap Turkish nato rounds. The mauser hates them, it's a pain to extract them. Nothing insane but more effort than a standard bolt working. Getting new parts for it isn't fun. Does any one have suggestions on a good 308 round to use. I want to reload for it so I didn't want to buy a ton of different types and have to worry about that.
hmmm...If you are referring to the MKE ZQ1 147 grain Turkish made stuff (7.62x51 Nato), I have had an issue with them in only one of my .308's. My Ruger Gunsite scout bolt gun doesn't like them. I have found it likes 168 grain ammunition way better. For range ammo, try the PMC Bronze .308 Winchester, it's inexpensive and seems to shoot well, although the ZQ1 stuff is cleaner in my opinion. My Ruger Gunsite loves the Privi Partisan 168gr match ammo (which is also pretty inexpensive in bulk, but I wouldn't call it match grade). I can also recommend the RedDotArms re-manufactured .308 ammo! It works well in every .308 platform I own. I dislike the Winchester .308 'white' box stuff, the Super X stuff is way better. Just some comments on .308 ammo types...
Thanks for the heads up, I have only used that Turkish round. And some horandy round, the hornandy rounds worked good but way too much. Is that ruger scout the one with iron sites as well as the scope mount?
yes... 10 round magazine fed. If you ever get one, get rid of the metal magazine it comes with and get some polymer ones. They fit better, run better and are much smaller hanging down. I am running a EOTECH 522 on mine and love it.
That's cool I was eyeing one of those out if the budget st the moment. But I love the idea if a scout rifle. And the iron sites were awesome so you can shoot it before you save up fir the scope. Super cool gun
