Wish I had a basement. I would not settle on a safe rather a vault door. Just block up two sides and the edges for the vault door. This gives you a lot more room.
I have a wall safe. Very little room but holds my pistols and other important items. I had to cut out a section of drywall to install it, which was an initial barrier for me. Works well.
My wife and want to get a wall safe and we have a perfect place for it. Talking to a locksmith the other day and he suggested taking stainless steel 1/4" thick and lacing the studs that surround the safe. That no one will be able to cut it out. We have yet to settle on a brand for the safe.
