Unfortunately the current trend of statue removal is all about the erasure of history. I doubt very much if the City council has any idea what Lee did after the war. Lee was a Confederate, so he is automatically disqualified from having anything meaningful to say. I'm reminded of Stalin who killed off all the leaders of the revolution, then killed off the people who knew the leaders of the revolution, all so he could control history..... and we know how well that turned out.

It may be a good thing... The democrat party is trying to rid itself of it's racist hero's. The Southern leadership all were democrats and they and the party FOUGHT for slavery. Later they went on to found the KKK, another democrat party organization. The democrats brought us such outspoken racists as George Wallace, LBJ and Woodrow Wilson. Heck a democrat who was a grand wizard of the Klan served in the Senate until he died (Robert Byrd (D) WV). The democrat party has represented racism for 200 years.

BelieveIn308, you are absolutely right about the fact that it was the Democrats who were the party of segregation and the KKK. But we should never erase history, which is what the left does. If you don't know the freedoms that people gave their lives for, you don't notice when they are taken away.

Memorial Day remains one of America's most cherished patriotic observances. The spirit of this day has not changed - it remains a day to honor those who died defending our freedom and democracy.
