In this case it was a random idiot. The CEO quickly got on the phone, etc.
But you are right in general.
My first job was at a burger drive-in, Dog N. Suds, and we gave a year round 20% discount to all law enforcement. It was standard procedure at the time, the 70's.
Back then being a cop meant you were most likely giving up a better job to serve, and the discounts were a way to help.
Much like congress used to be something where professionals set their careers aside for a time to serve the people. It cost them money.
So in many respects America is gone already and has been.
I am glad to see that both Arby's and Chucky Cheese have corrected the problems but it is still sad that they happened at all.

Speculation I know, but it sounds like the employee simply had a "beef" with police in general. I doubt Arby's had any policy in place that got misinterpreted, did they?

It didn't sound that way.
Just idiots feeling emboldened by Obama and Holder.
An employee is an agency of the company. Instituting a 'policy' where not exists, is grounds for termination. If the company has no policy, or a policy of allowing any LEO open carry on their property, then that employee should be terminated.

Did you know that such discounts are now a violation of federal bribary statutes? A store owner who gives a discount or free coffee to police officers potentially under federal law could face a 20 year prison term. This country is truly upside down.
That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. How in the world is a cup of coffee or a few cents off a burger and fries bribery? Agree this country is beyond fucked at this point.
The operate word in that is "federal".
The FBI, the Armed forces, and the National Park and Forest Services - Other than those "Federal" means incompetent, ignorant, and corrupt.

Compare and contrast this to a Secretary of State whose felony computer antics allowed every communist/fascist country on the planet to access the library of national TOP SECRET documents.
Said Secretary of State will be rewarded with the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.

When I grew up, I had part time job at a Dunk'in Donuts decades ago. Their policy was always to give officers preferred service and Free coffee and donuts. The whole time, I don't think there was ever a robbery or crime there. And I have to say, as a young adult, I learned what LEO's have to deal with on a daily basis. It's was not a pretty picture, and that was back in the day when things were more civilized, and Police were highly respected.
