Ok, I officially hate the stock on the Mosin I have. I like the rifle, so am thinking I will replace the stock with an Archangel stock. Does anyone here have any experience with that stock. Does it lighten up the rifle a lot? Comments?
I don't with that stock specifically, but I do with another synthetic stock. And it was worth it. Better site picture. And it made the recoil much better. The archangel looks cool and I do like the mag option, but I didn't have the funds at the time. I do see more and more people got them.
The stock just seems so short to me, it's heavy and doesn't manage recoil very well. The rifle is a great shooter, but I would most definitely like it better if I got a better cheek weld. What stock did you purchase? Do you like it? The Archangel is like $150 on ebay, new...
I bought the ati stock from Amazon. I like it, it took some work for fitting it. But it has a Monte Carlo stock, and a built in butt pad it's one of the best upgrades I did to it
I always wanted a Mosin Nagant.
They are okay, I wouldn't have it high on my list

I bought one because I didn't have a rifle and they were inexpensive. It is a real piece of history and a real WW II rifle.

And when you talk about the end of the world, there is no more end of the world than Stalingrad in 1942, and it won the day there.
I have lot's of rifles, the Mosin-Nagant was not fulfilling a need, more a historical want. That said the gun is a really good shooter. Ammo is cheap. I just want to make it more fun. And the stock seems really short, and that adds to it's kick. I think I am going with the Archangel stock, and I have a bi-pod that will mount easily to that. The reason I looked at the Archangel was that I have a couple of their 10 round magazines for it someone gave to me.

When the stock gets here, and it is assembled, I will post pictures...

Yeah I would like to see it. My son and I talked about buy a couple of them and leaving one stock but cleaned up and the other the Archangel stock.
The nice thing is , is that you can make a lot if adjustments with out permetly altering the gun. Plus there are a ton of after market parts wish I had the same options for me steyr m95
I just bought my son an Archangel stock for his SKS. He likes the SKS meets AK look that it has combined with the collapsible stock.
My new Archangel stock ($128) and fore rail section ($13) came today. It came with a 10 round magazine. It took about 20 minutes to put together. Now I will see if I can take her back to the range this weekend and test it out. The magazine seemed to feed OK, but the proof will be at McMiller. So far I like the cheek weld and stock length MUCH better. It is also lighter.

Nice.
A range report would be awesome
Nice set up
Ok, here is my range report... First off, the Mosin in the new stock is really not a lot lighter than the old wood stock. It is however way better balanced. Also, to me the stock is much easier to get a perfect cheek weld and perfect length of pull, which really improves the trigger a lot IMHO. The rest of the set up is better as well. The did have a problem with one of the 3 ten round magazines, but there was a video online that said to strip it, bake at 225 for 15 minutes and then dump it in cold water. Seems to have done the trick. The other magazines functioned fine. The problem child seems to be doing better now. The stock also has really helped reduce the recoil. I shoot lots of .308 and have to say pre-Archangel you felt the recoil on the old stock. It kicked like a mule. It is much more tame now and fun to shoot. I put about 50 rounds down range at a 100 yds and had 2" groups. I think it was the BiPod more than the shooter.
I love the look of the "tactical" Mosin. It looks like a proper "sniper" rifle now. Are you going to mount an optic on it or just use irons?
I am just going to use irons on it. It seems accurate enough as is. I am not sure how I would even mount a scope on this without a rail section of some type. Seems like I probably should see what mounting a scope with this stock entails.
Outside drilling holes. There us a company that make scope mounts that fit in the rear site. They also have peep site rear site replacement s
Generic scope mounts for the Mosin work in a similar fashion to the ones for a M1903 or KAR98K. A buddy of mine has the following one on his Mosin:

The following picture gives an idea of how it looks with it mounted:

No that's not his rifle. He has a polymer Monte Carlo style stock on his, which gives it more of the traditional hunting rifle look.
